National MX 125 champion, Zoltan Ordog was the motocross athlete of the year in 2022. He has done high-performance sport for 13 years and would even sleep with his motorcycle, which he cannot imagine giving up even after his racing career ends. “I’ll surely become a mechanic or a coach,” Zoli is convinced.
At age 3, to the surprise of all the neighbours and family friends, little Zoli received a motorcycle as a gift. His father, a former karting driver in national competitions, was steering his boy toward sport too, but a different branch. After two years of practising mostly on a plot of land near the commune’s town hall, Zoli faced his first real test of whether to continue: his first crash. “Even now I remember how much I cried! I wonder myself that I kept going,” Zoltan laughs now, who 11 years after that unpleasant event can already boast a remarkable series of successes both in domestic and international races.
He is a student in a philology class but knows his future lies in the sport he is in love with. “I have no problems at school, I actually have good grades, I like both English and Romanian. But I know that in the future I will follow the sports line at university too. I cannot imagine parting with my motorcycle. When I stop racing I’ll surely become a mechanic or a coach,” explains Zoli.
He has another reason to boast, especially for those who constantly ask him whether he is afraid of getting injured. Zoli has not suffered any serious medical problem in his 13 years of career, a fact that also helped him win the title last year. This year he will represent Romania both in the German ADAC Championship and, above all, at the Junior World Championship in Ciolpani on July 8-9.
“I think I can reach the top 10 at the Junior World Championship. It won’t be easy, but I will give everything to get the best possible result,” Zoli concludes.
